Enter and View: Manchester Royal Infirmary
We recently carried out an Enter and View at Manchester Royal Infirmary Hospital to assess wheelchair access for people in the hospital.
We found that access to a wheelchair in Manchester Royal Infirmary is poor and that information regarding use of a wheelchair was unavailable. Locating a wheelchair was difficult for abled bodied and non-sensory impaired people. This would be very difficult for somebody with a disability. This is non-compliant with the Public Sector Equality Duty.
However, access around MRI was good once we had access to a wheelchair. There were numerous ramps at different entrances to the building and well spaced out lifts throughout the infirmary. The corridors were wide and uncluttered which made wheelchair usage for both the person in one and the person manoeuvring one acceptable.
