HWM Enter and View: Carlton Road Care Home
We visited Carlton Road Care Home to observe the environment and routine of the venue with a particular focus on how well it supports the dignity of residents. Moreover, we made a plan to speak to members of staff about their experience in the home, focusing specifically on the care and any treatments they provided. This included an opportunity to share their opinions and feedback about the service.
During our visit, we found the care home to be clean and tidy with good lighting all around the building. Each resident had their own room and there was ample space for visitors to use. The home also had a sensory room for anyone to use which included soft lighting, comfortable seating and calming music. This was a great idea considering the home specialises in caring for adults who are learning disabled.
HWM staff took time to interview members of staff in the care home about their opinions on what could be improved in the care home. The manager pointed out that staff training was not all completed due to the lack of a manger before her recent appointment however it is worth noting the manger has been proactive in her approach to helping the staff catch up with their training.
One of the few things that HWM recommended needed to be corrected by the care home was access to the lift. We noticed that the lift in the care home was cramped due to the amount of cleaning supplies being stored in there making it unsafe for current use. Therefore, we recommended that these items should be removed from being stored in the lift and instead stored somewhere secure. The care home manager has since informed us that cleaning supplies are being stored in the back of the laundry room now.
Thank you to the staff and service users as Carlton Road Care Home for their feedback and cooperation during our visit.
