HWM Enter and View: Fairleigh House Care Home
We visited Fairleigh House Care Home to observe the environment and routine of the venue with a particular focus on how well it supports the dignity of residents. Moreover, we made a plan to speak to members of staff about their experience in the home, focusing specifically on the care and any treatments they provided. This included an opportunity to share their opinions and feedback about the service.
We found that the care home staff were all friendly and welcoming when we conducted our investigation and the care home itself had a warm and comfortable vibe for the residents. The building itself was well maintained and there was a ramp up to the entrance to support wheelchair access.
We did not speak to any residents however the staff were helpful and gave us some in-depth feedback about the service from their own point of view. For example, we felt as though some areas of the care home could have been better lit as certain walkways and corridors seemed dark however the practice manager explained to us in their response to our report that this was due to the different sensory needs of the residents in the care home.
However there were a couple of improvements to the care home that would be made to improve the visitor and user experience. For example, feedback forms should be available in the care home, ideally at the front entrance, for residents, family members and other visitors to the home to use. Moreover, we believe there should be photographs of the staff members at the entrance, for example on the clock in cards, so visitors know who the staff members are and what their job role is.
Thank you to the staff and service users as Fairleigh House Care Home for their feedback and cooperation during our visit.
