Enter and View: Park House

The Healthwatch Manchester team conducted an Enter and View visit to the inpatient wards at Park House, located on the North Manchester General Hospital site, to speak with the patients about both their experience of living at Park House and also their knowledge & understanding of their future relocation to a new site known as North View.

The patients in Park House were being moved to a new facility known as North View in November 2024 and the Park House site is set to be demolished. This represents the largest transfer of patients in NHS history.

The team conducted an Enter and View investigation over the course of two days (22-23/10/2024). Using a set list of 20 questions, the team spoke to 37 patients in total across all 9 wards. Naturally, not every survey was fully completed due to the nature of the patients and how they presented at the time of our interviews.

Due to the vast array of different responses to our survey, this qualitative data has been analysed and converted into a quantitative format to show a clearer and more concise picture of the patient’s opinions. Although the findings are presented in this way, we included numerous quotes from patients to support our analysis.

Overall, we found that patients felt well informed and confident about their move to North View despite a small number of patients reporting that they weren’t informed. On clarification with the trust and through our own observations, we found no evidence to support them not being informed.

Healthwatch Manchester recommended that the process of informing patients about the move to North View has been comprehensive and should be repeated for any such future moves in GMMH.

Healthwatch Manchester will be preforming a further Enter and View at the new site in early 2025 to conduct a comparative review of patient experience at both Park House and North View.
